Surfers have journeyed to Australia's coast and divers to the Great Barrier Reef for decades. But consider the inland itineraries. Hike Mt. Kosiuszko, Australia's tallest mountain, go canyoning (abselling or jumping into a river) in a slot gorge system or hike through rain forest to the base of 270-foot Kondalilla Falls. Add some Tasmanian mountain biking or tour (at least some of) the Outback. Australia provides the sandbox for as long as you want to play.

New Zealand offers practically every adventure experience within a single country, usually within the same itinerary. Hike through Nelson Lakes National Park, kayak upon Queen Charlotte Sound, cycle the South Island. Discover rain forests, canyons, lagoons, mountain peaks and deep limestone caves. Often ecosystems merge spectacularly, like the Franz Josef Glacier that slithers through the rain forest. It really is impossible to imagine New Zealand until you've actually experienced it.

The South Pacific Islands draw the curious to hike upon active volcanoes, explore forests full of orchids and witness the island culture that has captivated visitors since they were "discovered" by Captain Cook. Of course you'll want to spend generous time in the water, diving off Fiji past brilliant fish and WWII relics or kayaking the mythical lagoons. Or just stay afloat, sailing out of Bora Bora. You'll trek deep into forests to spy feathered jewels, lush vegetation and exquisite waterfalls.
